'Laying a Firm Foundation: Rich in Good Deeds - Willing to Share'

Last Sunday we celebrated both the 81st birthday of Munholland UMC and our privilege to play our part in advancing the gospel in 2018. There was a time when Munholland only existed in the hearts and minds of a few people. If they had just talked about it, nothing would have happened. Instead, they put their faith into action to lay a firm foundation, rich in good deeds and willing to share. Because of Susie May Munholland and others like her, many have come to a saving knowledge of God, reached out in the name of Jesus, gone on the mission field, been raised up as ministers, and brought the love of Christ to work and the community. The founders of Munholland UMC had a vision and were willing to put their resources and their service where their mouth was.
From generation to generation, this legacy of good deeds and generosity has been handed down. Now the baton has been passed to us and we must answer the call to continue to build on this firm foundation of a faithful community. God's love is in our hearts. God's talent is in our hands. God's resources are in our pockets. God has called and equipped each of us to do our part to bring people into a grace-filled relationship with God and into joy-filled community in His church.
If you haven't already filled out the pledge and service cards that were mailed to you, now is the time. Susie May Munholland put up the first dollars toward the purchase of property and the establishment of this church. What 'first-fruits' are you willing to commit for the strengthening of this body in 2018? Susie May taught Sunday School, led Bible Studies and local missions, served as treasurer of the church, and did much more to grow and enliven the congregation. Pick one or two areas in which you can serve within and beyond the walls of our church. Prayerfully fill out the pledge and service cards and bring them to worship with you this Sunday or mail them to Munholland UMC.
As we give our resources and service to God's work in the world we 'will lay up treasure for [ourselves] as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that [we] may take hold of the life that is truly life.' (I Tim 6:19)
Mary Kay and I have already made our commitment. We are bound to God and to you so that together we will all experience 'life that is truly life.'
Shoulder to shoulder with you,
