'Follow the Leader'

We have all different kinds of leaders in our lives – family leaders, supervisors and bosses, teachers and principals, ministry leaders and pastors. Each leader has their own goals, style, and value systems. So, who do we follow? Paul made it clear who is the leader we should follow.
“Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.” (Eph 5:1-2)
How do we follow God’s example? How do we know what God wants and how to live it out? These may seem like obvious questions, but we need to constantly ask them to bring us back to the foundation of our faith and practice. We know God’s will for us through his self-revelation in the Bible, and we see God himself living out that will in Jesus Christ. Notice that Paul is saying, "God showed us how to follow him by becoming one of us, Jesus." All the Scriptures are a unified whole pointing to Jesus. The gospels are a distillation of God’s revelation in the Old Testament as well as the writings of the apostles found in the New Testament. While not every question we may have is explicitly addressed, we can enter into the biblical revelation of God and understand God’s character and core values lived out in Jesus.
Who are you following? Some people say they aren’t following anyone. Some are following an ideology. Some are following a celebrity or a leader of a cause. We, however, follow God by looking at Jesus and allowing the Holy Spirit to lead us in that path.
“Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) and find out what pleases the Lord.” (Eph 5:8-10)
My desire is to find out what pleases the Lord, because it promises the most satisfying and rewarding life.
Following the Leader,
